Online training resources

lynda.jpg In the hurried world of marketing and advertising, or if you are just working on your own design work, there never seems to be enough time to train on new and ever changing software out there. So how do you keep on top of things? Some of the things that I have found to be very helpful are online training videos. You can watch and rewatch and one of the best that I have come across is Lynda.com.

I had the pleasure a few years back to visit the Lynda travelling road show as they stopped in Minneapolis, and Lynda W. was amazing. Her explanation and techniques were solid and came from someone who you could tell actually used the programs. Today, she has a number of talented trainers doing videos for her on the site. For the cost of even the most inexpensive seminar, this library is one you will access over and over again.

You will find a number of free training videos on the site, so if you aren't ready to sign up, there are a lot of great tips that you can find just in these alone.

Incorporating photographic elements

Stemilt.jpgOne of the trends I see more and more of on the web is the incorporation of photographic elements into overall web design. The photos add texture and depth to a site which would typically be very flat. One of my favorite sites that I use to illustrate this is the Stemilt Winery site. The depth, texture and overlapping elements just make this a beautiful site.

Got Milk?

gotmilk.jpg My how time flies, can you believe the "Got Milk" campaign has been running for 15 years now? And the stars they have put in their ads appeal to every age demographic. I just received an e-mail for my girls that you can now download the new Miley Cyrus "Got Milk" poster, is there anything she isn't on? And not to be outdone by the ads, the website, is a beauty itself. With trivia, games, and information all put together in a nice package, I appreciate the white milk and apple-esque reflection and the fun of it all. They are even giving away an Apple Air.
