In March of 2009, the Fargo, ND and Moorhead, Minnesota experienced record flooding of the Red River. North Dakota also saw flooding at unprecedented levels statewide. During this crisis, communities came together as one, young and old, all working together to fill over 3 million sandbags in an attempt to save the city from widespread flooding. The one really unifying thing that I saw was that all of the people who had participated in a sandbagging line had this big residual sand spot on the front of their shirts, I wanted to create something that could capture the spirit of people coming together, working as one for a common good. A true community. Even if you weren't able to be there in person, working in a sandbag line, you can support the spirit that this community showed by getting one of your own "United We Sand" items.
Now you can show your support at two different sites:
Old Lutheran
Old Lutheran is a local company who has graciously agreed to provide the "United We Sand" shirts, sweatshirts and Decals. Also, 50% of the purchase price of merchandise will be donated to the Impact Give Back - Red River Valley Flood Fight (a program of the Dakota Medical Foundation) which is matching the first $25,000 in donations. So with a $12 shirt, after matching funds, the entire purchase price will be donated. Because this is a local business, we have much better margins and can in turn donate a higher percentage back to the community.
Products can be picked up in person at:
