Take nothing for granted

toaster.jpg

So, I had come across this a while back and thought it was pretty cool. I really like when someone tears something apart, reimagines it, and creates something better and more interesting. Takes nothing for granted and starts from scratch, building something as though we had never seen it before, and when the end product comes out looking beautiful and functional, that has the most impact.

I remember seeing a group of people who were reimagining a shopping cart, taking nothing for granted, starting from scratch. The end result was a more modern cart, but not that far from a traditional cart, at least it didn't have the all-terrain wheels I SO wish someone would buy into. (look at baby strollers, all now with more rugged wheels and SO much easier to use than 20 years ago....but I digress)

So, how would you redesign a toaster? On Desisgnboom, you will find all kinds of competitions, etc, and a pretty cool looking toaster.

Check it out at :http://www.designboom.com/contest/view.php?contest_pk=16&item_pk=11744&p=1

So, what are you working on? How can you take a project that might seem mundane, or cumbersome and make it new and different, more efficient. Better!

Stickie Quickie

From the brainpower of the folks at MIT, here is a sticky idea. If you have ever seen my monitor, you will know that it is typically covered in no less than a dozen stickie notes. Things that I need to remember, need to do, or phone numbers I need to hang onto. I love Post-its, have them in every shape an size, but here is something new. A way to digitize them, now I know, you can do the stickies on the mac, and they are fine and alll, but there is something just a little too uptight about a typed stickie, these have a much more organic feel.

Screw it, lets ride!

harley.jpg  So, in the world of marketing, you would be hard pressed to find a more loyal customer base than that of Harley Davidson. Who else has their logo permanently tatoo'ed on the arms and hearts of it clients? So in light of all of the negativity and stress of the world, Harley has a new campaign called "Screw it, lets ride!" It touches on the escapism that people today want. There is so much going on in the world, and for a little while, we would all like to crawl into the warm and fuzzy cave of denial, or in this case, hit the road on your Harley.

Yes, the campaign is a little bold and in your face, but I venture to guess that it is one that resonates with its audience, and prospects. So, when working on your next big campaign, listen and think like your audience. What is important to them, how do they speak, what do they want. Being authentic and creating a campaign that genuinely speaks to your audience, whoever they are, is worth it's weight in gold....or in this case Chrome.
